FIZ Tresure Hunt to Genting Highlands

Lately, I am hooked on this game. Hence, the lack of updates. I couldn't complete level 9! pek-chek-nya...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

It is the time of the year again where the PMG Sports of Bayan Lepas in collaboration with Road Runners organized a treasure hunt. One of the objective of this event is to foster friendship among Bayan Lepas staff. This year, Genting Highlands is the destination.

Event: FIZ Treasure Hunt to Genting Highlands
Date: 19 & 20 July 2008
Hunt: Juru tol - Tapah R&R
Sponsors: NST, Giant, Guardian

Seeing that I had a lot of fun from last year's Langkawi hunt, I signed up for it again this year. Tried to gather the same team as last year but sadly, I only manage to find one member. Out of the previous 2 teams, 3 of the team members left Altera, the husband and wife had a baby lately and cannot find someone to care for the baby, and another one is preparing for her soon-to-be wedding. That left only Sashi and me, so we get another 2 members to join our team.

On Wed, we attended the briefing session. On Thu, we had discussion over dinner to discuss strategy and warm-up our brains with examples of treasure hunt questions. It is also during this time that Sashi and I, the experience one, share the little knowledge we had with our 2 newer team members who are first timers.

On Sat morning, we reached Giant as early as 6.15am to be flagged off. Giant is one of the sponsors of the Treasure Hunt.

Putting on the label on the car door...number 29...go go go!!

At about 7am, we were off looking for treasure with the guidance of a tulip, 2 sets of questions and an older copy of NST. The NST contain answers to the NST Trove questions (NST sponsored RM5000).

This time around, there were 3 types of questions to answer. The NST Trove where the answers can be found in the NST paper provided to us, Treasure questions where we need to solve the clue and buy the item, and lastly the usual treasure hunting questions where you need to understand the q's and then find the answers from signboard at designated section according to the tulip.

We go along the highway heading south, stopped by Bukit Tambun (i think), drive around there looking for answers, then go back into the highway, stop by Ipoh, look for answers, back to highway, then reach Tapah R&R to submit the answers. Everything happen in a blur...

"Totally no photos during hunting duration coz too busy to even take out the camera."

When the car was moving, I busy myself with Treasure questions and NST Trove. When the car reached a destination pointed by tulip, I was busy looking at the tulip questions. All of a sudden, 7hrs had gone by and it was time to submit the answers. Hunting duration was 7hrs and we were supposed to hand in the answer sheet together with the treasures bought at 2.53pm...but we were late!! 3points will be deducted for every 5mins late...we lost 9pts there...very bad!

Sashi and I put high hopes on ourselves to at least win a place in this hunt. This 9pts we lost some how crushed our dream.

After passing up the answers, it was time to have fun at Genting Highlands. We drive leisurely heading to Genting, putting treasure hunt behind us for the mean time. We'll be spending a night in First World Hotel.

We reached Genting Highlands at about 4.30pm. 2 of my x-treasure hunt team members were at Genting to meet us. Checked-in, clean ourselves up and it's dinner time. Treasure hunters had a dinner that night, where they will announce the winner and reveal the answers. The 2 non-treasure-hunter-visitor had to eat themselves :P

Can you spot the visitors?

Compare to last year, prize structure are a little different this year. Cash prizes were only given to position 1 to 15 only (last year 1 to 20).

The prizes that night
Champion: RM1800, Runner-up: RM1200, 2nd Runner-up: RM800, 4th to 15th: RM100

The dinner

To my disappointment, our team won nothing. Not even the Giant or Guardian hamper. As sad and disappointed as can be, I cannot deny that I had fun, though there are frustrating moments at times during the hunt.
(fun is major, frust is minor)

These are the events of the night at Genting International Convention Center

What do adults do in Genting??

After the dinner, it's Casino time :)

The whole night was spent in the casino, until about 1.30am when we go back to sleep. 4guys, 2gals and 2 First World hotel room, how to sleep? At first, it was 4 guys in a room and 2 girls in another. Somehow the room can't fit 4 men, so one of them lucky ones get to share the room with the girls. We, 2 girls share a bed and the lucky guy got a bed all to himself.

The next day, 2 guys from the next room complained about how they did not get their sleep because the 3rd guy was snoring so loudly that they can feel the snore's vibration when they cover their ears with the pillow. They call him "the truck"! Hehe...

After breakfast, it was casino time again. Just in case you were asking, "no I did not gamble". Yesterday night we went to the old casino, this morning we went to the new one in First World. We were there until it was check-out time.

Before we left, we take a walk around the place, enjoying the cool breeze. And it was photo session.

The company (from left): Hong Chuang, Zing Yee, me, Sashi, Daniel, Bokong

We did not go into the theme park. Just take a walk outside, take pictures and that is all we did.

Obviously I'm taller than 153cm
(photo blur, thanks to Sashi
) :(

Lastly, we stop by Chin Swee Temple on the way down.

Pass by KL for late lunch and head back Penang after that. Reached Penang safely around 8.30pm.

And that's the journey of my second treasure hunt, FIZ Treasure Hunt to Genting Highlands.

RM700 participation fee per team, includes one night hotel stay (twin sharing) + buffet dinner + buffet breakfast + event T-shirt + a chance to win lucky draw + fun during treasure hunt. Worth it or not, it is up to you to judge ;)
