Bkt Genting Thai food

This post had been in my mind since the very first time I went to Bkt Genting, some time back in December last year (2006). But I've never taken the initiative to type in down in words. Since then, I had been there 3 times already.

Unfortunately, I don't have fancy photos to share because each time I went there, I forgot to bring along my camera. :P

I'm not sure how many people know about this restaurant up on the hill known as Bkt Genting, it is located on the way from Teluk Kumbar to Balik Pulau. I get to know about this place through the "Rasa-Rasa Penang" book I bought end of last year. I was flipping it one day, thinking of where to bring my parents for dinner when I flipped to this place. It serves Thai food, and it's location sounds special, not the occasional place me nor my parents would visit. So I decided to bring them there.

Bukit Genting is actually a fruit orchard, the road up the hill is very very steep. My 1.6l Nissan AD resort climb relaxly up with 3 person in the car, but with 5 person, it really had a hard time going up. At one point, the car went backwards (oops!).On the way up, we can see many durians hanging lowly from the trees.

The view from the top is magnificient. One side of the hill is an agriculture land (padi if not mistaken) and the other side of the hill is a developed area.

The most suitable time to go there is around sunset, estimate your own time as sunset time varied throughout the year.

On the hill top, other than the mountain view, you are greeted by a board full of photos of visitors from all over the world, it's true!

Other than that, they also have a small garden by the eating place. It is nicely decorated with miniature clay animals and neatly trimmed grass.

The first time I was there, I figured a meal up there must be expensive. On top of the hill wor...so special, got sunset and all the nice view some more. You know la, usually things which are higher up are more expensive, for example houses on top of the hill are very much more expensive compared to houses on flat ground. This applies to food too. But to my surprise, it is not at all expensive, contrarily I consider it cheap for such a delicious Thai food.

The dish I love the most is the Thai style kangkung, it is definitely the best belacan kangkung I've ever tasted. Out of 3 times I went there, I ordered this dish 2 times. :) What are Thai food without tomyam rite? The tomyam is also deliciously spicy. It is just too spicy for me to handle.

Although this place is abit far from where I live, about 13-14km from Bayan Lepas, but the food there is worth the long journey. It's an eating place I'd recommend for visitors to Penang, or even couples who love secluded romantic dinner place. It's a great place with good food, good view and a reasonable price.
