Happy working anniversary
Today is exactly 1 year of me in the working environment. Second year starts tomorrow. Although there are still many many working years ahead, the first year is always worth mentioning and to be remembered. It’s another milestone worth marking in life.
I still remember the first day I came into Altera on 12 June 2006. I’m so glad that on my first day to work, there were familiar people around (I think 7 or 8 of us reporting on the same day). That time, Yun Mei, Tenny, Weizhi and I carpool to work.
The first 2 weeks at work, I have no idea what people are talking in the meeting room, totally in a blur, was unfamiliar with the Unix platform and sometimes I did not get what alien language my buddy were talking about. What are Primetime? What are Astro? What are Hardcopy? And bermacam-macam lagi unfamiliar terms. I was also very tired and sleepy during working hours as I’m not used to waking up so early in the morning.
After one year now, I am no longer that blur, no longer feeling sleepy at work (ok, maybe sometimes but very seldom lor), no longer falling asleep during conference meeting.
Being in the working world means no more watching movie with student price, no more paying cheaper for parking (parking cheaper on week days), no more staying up until middle of the night and sleeping all the way till afternoon (except Sat n Sun) and no more hanging out with friends so often.
On the other hand, I get to buy things I like, spend my own money, apply for my own credit card (credit card are evil) and it gives a sense of achievement seeing the amount grow bit-by-bit in bank account and EPF savings.
What can I say...here's a quote from me. "There's nothing perfect in life. To get something, you have to sacrifice some other things". Don't you agree?
Going forward, there are still many many things to learn in this field. Nevertheless, I’m proud with what I’ve achieved thus far, and I will keep learning.
"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever"
I am so gonna be a slave of technology for the rest of my life.
