Hiking for charity
This morning, I was in Botanical Garden for the charity hike organized by Nan Yang Siang Pau. The project was called Step By Step Up for Charity. What we, participants, need to do is to register and show up in Botanical Garden today, hike up Penang Hill until station 84 using the tar road and reached back at the finishing point.
This hike up Penang Hill is the 3rd organized hike in the country, previously they were in 2 other places in KL (if I'm not mistaken). There's not much information I can provide about this charity as I'm not a Chinese Newspaper reader, and other English paper never mention about this activity. Even the registration form is fully in Chinese, I only know how to fill up my particulars and don't know what it mention in the form.
So here's a summary of the event. I showed up at 7.00am in Botanical Garden with Tenny and Yau Kok. Register our names. There's no registration fee charged on participants, plus we get a T-shirt for participating. Start hiking after some warm up exercises, hike up about 2.5km to station 84 of Penang Hill, walk back down to the finishing point in one piece, we were given goodie bag coz we're still in one piece..haha. Had 2 cups of Milo provided by the Milo truck. At the end of the event, there's also more than 30 lucky draw prizes to be won, a Suzuki motorbike as the first prize. Too bad the 3 of us go back empty handed despite the 30+ number of prizes.
Highlight of the event (in my opinion):
Is when Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye was invited up to the stage to say a few words. It was at around 7.15am, before the hiking starts. The MC said let's invite Datuk Seri to give a few WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO OUR PARTICIPANTS before they start hiking. The Gerakan Secretary-General and Deputy Information Minister then step on stage.
In my opinion, I did not hear any word of encouragement from him, instead, he ask us "do you know who is the ADUN/ahli parlimen for Penang Hill?". And then, very surprisingly, he started campaigning for the General Elections (GE)!!! I think it is definitely unacceptable for someone to appear in a charity event, and then started to draw votes for the GE that don't even have a date fixed yet. Other than that, he also mentioned that he didn't know what time the event start, that is why he is a little bit late. Bullshit!! How can he not know what time the event start? Of course it has been mention to him when he get the invitation to attend this event. His appearance and what he said turned my mood down and make me furious, but fortunately in a short period the furious feeling in me was over, must have drained out of me together with all the sweat and energy I pour out throughout the hike. If not, he'll be such a spoiler on this great healthy event.
