Pain in the head
Previous post I've mentioned about my headache. Just in case you did not see that, it happened in the month of August. After about 1 week plus, I'm still having the pain in my head, it's getting annoying and unbearable. The pain will attack when there's movement of my head for example, lifting my head up, bending down, standing up, sneeze and sometimes, without movement also will have some slight pain. After much delay, I finally got myself to consult a specialist, a neurologist to be exact.
Going to a doctor, in my opinion, is always something that is time consuming. It is a waste of time to have to queue up for registration, wait 30mins or more for your turn to see the doctor, do self diagnosing (coz u're telling the doctor what is your prob), and in less than 3 mins time, you're out of the consultation room, wait for another 10 mins for your medication, pay at least RM25 for all the time you've wasted and you go back home, let the medicine make you sleepy and you sleep. Don't get me started on the time and petrol spend on the road driving to the clinic. That is why, I hate to go to clinic/doctor. One round would means wasting at least 1hr precious time.
Despite all the hassle, after 2 weeks of continuous pain, I decided to go to the specialist on Monday. So on Fri, I told my boss about it and apply for a half day leave for Mon. On that exact same day, I don't have the headache anymore!! How can like that leh? Pain for 2 weeks continuously but as soon as I decided to go to a specialist and applied leave, no more pain! Since preparations had been made, I go ahead with the plan.
I reached the hospital before 8am. According to the ticket I got, I made my registration at 7.59am. It is so boring sitting there waiting, nothing to do. If I have my workstation with me, and an internet connection, then my time will be put to good use. I waited 1 and a half hours for my turn. This time I get to sit in the doctor's consultation room for half and hour (not like the normal doctor, less than 3mins). After doing a round of checking, he said no problem with my head but he found that there's some abnormality with my heart. -_-"'
He said the heart abnormality got nothing to do with the headache but it's best to get my heart check. He suggested I do an ECG. Since I'm already there, so I agree to it. Off I go to the hospital's heart and cardiology centre, waited for another 1 hour for my turn. Got a few wires stick to my chest and there comes a graph of my heartbeat.
Then I go back to the doctor, and he confirm that there's something abnormal with the graph. He said got no 'P' pulse wor...not that I know what he means...haha. But my guess is, er, usually normal heartbeat will have mengecut and mengembang wan la...for my case, one of them is not strong kua...he cannot hear through the stethoscope. He also said I got a slower-than-normal pulse. He suggested I should consult a cardiologist to have a more detail check-up on my heart.
As for the headache, he said I can opt for a MRI or just ignore it coz now no more pain ma...and he didn't find anything wrong with my reflexes. MRI would cost RM700!! (duno i got listen wrongly or not)
Since I din have the pain on Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon, 4 days already, should be alrite liao la, so I said no need scan la...next time only come back for a detail heart check lor...and he said ok.
That ends my visit to the specialist. I wasted a whole morning of my precious time (8am to 11.30am, travelling time not included), and I am RM135 poorer :(
Just some thoughts
There are so many people at the hospital waiting to be check by doctor. Just imagine how much of our country's resources are being wasted on waiting for medical consultation. What I saw was in a private hospital, things are more systematic and are moving in a faster pace. Can you imagine about general hospital??
