Tomi Sushi

In San Jose, there's a wide variety of food one can choose from. They range from Japanese, Korean, Vietnam, Western, Chinese, Malaysian and fast food. Well, these are the ones I tried anyway...you can also find Mexican food around, but I've never tried them before.

There's this one Japanese restaurant I love a lot called Tomi Sushi. The first time I was there, we had to stand outside the restaurant waiting for a place to sit.

Tomi Sushi Japanese Restaurant

They serve combo lunch at around $8.90, which is a set consisting of rice, salad, half of an orange, miso soup, a piece of broccoli and 2 other options to choose from tempura to B.B.Q to sushi and other etc choices which I couldn't recall.

One of the set they serve

There's also the lunch set of the day where the set will be displayed at the main entrance, the lunch set is of limited quantity (so they said) and is a bit cheaper compare to other sets.

Here's another type of set served in Tomi Sushi, this would be a more expensive set because of all the different kinds of raw fish

What I like the most is the Unadon (eel over rice). I've been in SJ for 3 and a half months now, visited Tomi Sushi 4 times and all 4 times I went, I ordered Unadon. I couldn't resist not to order it. It's a bit more expensive at $11.90 but I'm always willing to pay more for good food. The Unadon comes with a miso soup and a salad too.

My favorite Unadon

It is served in a bento box with unagi, a little seaweed on top, 2pcs of tamago (egg) and a whole lot of Japanese rice. I don't know what's the yellow thing on the top left though, never tried it. I'd say this is the best Unadon I've ever tried. Those unagi that Sushi King served had some mud smell in it but this one is purely eel. Very good!

The food portion is so big, I never finished my rice for all 4 times.

Green tea is free of charge

They have a sushi bar in the restaurant, and the waitresses will be wearing something Japanese-like.

This is a highly recommended Japanese food in San Jose. It's easy to find the location, usually I'd use Google Map. Basic info such as street name, city and zip code, like this, 4336 Moorpark Ave, San Jose, CA 95129 would be sufficient. I can then print out the route from office to Tomi Sushi.

I wonder when can we have a map database such as Google Map in Malaysia.

  • I find Wikimapia to be really useful while searching for a location in Malaysia. I will then compare it with Google Maps and print out the street map.
