Gathering, wedding and Sabah Part II
...continue from previous post. I have finally been able to drag my lazy hands to finish typing this.
Third day, woke up early in the morning to be ready to fetch the bride back home.
Mak's CLK (Cute Little Kenari) with beer cans tagging behind. The cans were so loud that everyone on the street turned to look when the car was moving on the street.
At the bride's house, of course there were some challenges to overcome before the chi mui-s allowed Mak into the house. With the help of his faithful heng dai-s, big size Lam, sneaky Billy, volunteer Yau, just to name a few, and the rest of the gang, it was no problem at all to pass all the 'test'.
It was a lot of fun seeing how the girls giving one challenge after another and guys performing the funny act. Mak was also made to answer some memory-related questions i.e. when first time hold hands, when is anniversary date and etc etc. After about 7 or 8 different tests to go through, the guys were allowed to enter the house. Later was the tea drinking procedure and photo taking session with the bride's family.
The day goes on with all the Chinese rules and ceremony and boring stuff.
At night, there was a BBQ. Don't know whether it's consider lucky or unlucky, that night it was actually raining quite heavily. Lucky because the cool weather is nice for BBQ, unlucky because we couldn't BBQ the chicken out in open air and another yes to lucky because Mak's front lawn has a porch that is big enough to protect us from the rain. So 2 lucky vs 1 unlucky = it was lucky to be raining :)
There were many mosquito outside that night. Even the mosquito coil couldn't chase the mosquito away. I was so frustrated with the mosquito I squat down to concentrate on my feet so that I could kill one or 2 of them blood sucker. And I got caught unsuspected on camera by Billy, where they later laugh at me :(
Not having enough Karaoke and liquor the night before, we decided to go back to the same Karaoke place again, ordering the same alcohol drink. This time we were able to stay until 2am before Mr. and Mrs. Mak wanted to go home. I was already pretty high...so were the rest. We laugh at every small little things there was to laugh at. Seeing that no one puke yet, back home, we dig out some Tiger beer stored in Mak's house and play some poker. Loser drink...not everybody play though, some were already drunk and went to sleep. 6 of us finished almost another dozen cans of Tiger beer. In the midst of drunkness, I dozed off.
The next day was Sunday, and was the wedding dinner night. All of us, except PohT will be leaving Sabah on a super early flight. Since it is an hour drive from Papar to KK, Mak plan for us to stay in the hotel on Sunday night so that it is easier for us to go to the airport early in the morning.
At about 10.30am, we leave for KK with all our belongings. We stay at the Promenade Hotel, a 4 star hotel in KK. This is also the hotel where Mak's wedding dinner will be held. Mak booked an Executive Suite for 8 of us to share, ah, how nice of him ;) Reaching KK at about 11.30, we put our things in the hotel room and then go out again for a walk in KK town. It's souvenir-buying time.
All these grilled seafood stalls were located just behind the famous Philippine market, a place to get souvenirs.
Get back to the hotel around 4pm to prepare ourselves for the dinner at 6.30pm.
I love the dinner. There were no noisy karaoke session like what we usually have here in the Peninsular. I hate those karaoke session. The dinner starts with an er hu performance by Mak's brother-in-law. He is really good, interesting performance that was. During the performance was also when the newly weds, Mr. and Mrs Mak made their grand entry into the hall. During the course of the dinner, we get to enjoy photo slide shows. Photo of Mak, from his childhood till now, then followed by Willyie, his wife's photo also from childhood till now, after that was the photos of them together. Wow, it was like watching how they grow and how they get together, accompanied by lovely songs, it is kinda romantic you know. Photos are excellent, silent story teller.
In the next slide show is a collection of photos of the wedding, from preparations to all the ceremony. Mak has a great bunch of photographers to take photos for him, they are all so pro, took really nice and meaningful photos. I wonder when I can get my hands on those photos.
After the dinner, we head back to the hotel room and have a simple "baton passing ceremony" where Ah Mak pass the baton to the next person who is gonna get married. I'm not gonna make the announcement on his/her behalf, have to wait for him/her to make the news public. For now, you guys can make your bets.
**Photos posted here are taken not only from my camera but a mixture of photos from Daniel, Yau, Billy, Kok Chong, Boon Hong and Poh Tee. Many thanks to all the photo contributors.
*Please let me know if you do not want your photos to be in public...I will remove them, but I'm sure you guys don't mind sharing rite? ^_^
