Some useful tips on going to any races in Sepang

Here I have some information I gathered during my visit to Sepang International Circuit for Moto GP2008 and I thought that it might be useful for first timer visitors.

Before the race day:
  • Survey the plan of the area, note down the different parking area (Parking A1, A2, B1...G3 etc) and decide which parking area is the nearest to your seat entrance. This is to prevent you from driving around looking for a parking area on the race day itself. Circuit map can be found in the Sepang Circuit website: http://malaysiangp.com.my/
  • Book your ticket in advance through the Reservation phone number available on the website or buy online (also can be found in their website)
  • Check the race schedule, plan your time wisely. Sepang is quite a distance from the city and if you're driving, allocate time for slow moving traffic. Don't forget that there are hundreds other people going to the same place as you wanting to watch the same race. Rushing can be dangerous.
  • Survey the weather, prepare poncho/umbrella if possible.
  • Bring along sun block, wear long sleeve and cap to prevent from sun burn. You know how fierce the sun in Malaysia can be.
On the race day:
  • Don't bother to prepare sandwiches or bring water bottles because outside food and drink are not allow. There will be bag checking at the entrance.
  • Bring plenty of money because food can be very costly in the circuit area. A mineral water cost RM3 and a box of rice cost RM10.
  • Remember to bring ear plug. Some people might feel uncomfortable with the loud sound + echo from the motor. The formula 1 cars are extremely loud.
  • Bring along binoculars if you have one.
  • Battery-powered fan
  • Oxygen mask if needed. If you're lucky, people sitting in front of you will be puffing on their cigarette and you can sing the song "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes".
Go to the race, be prepared and enjoy it!
