And now I have 2
I am now having pain on my shoulder, back, waist, joint, thigh muscle and feet gained from the marathon.
This half-marathon I participated in had been making me worried for the past one week. I didn't sleep well the night before the marathon, waking up at 11.30pm, 1.30am and finally crawling out of bed at 3am to prepare for the big event. I am worried because I did not do my training. When I first register, there's the occasional 2x treadmill run/week but after about 1 month, I find running on the treadmill boring and the lazy worms start making nests on my body, and I gave up training altogether.
Even though without training, I set a target for myself. I want to better my time of 3hrs 45mins set last year. The best is of course to complete the 22.3km within the 3hrs time limit.
This year, the run starting on time which is 5am as stated in the information brochure.
Last year, there was Leang to run with me. As she's busy with work this year, I am all alone :(
The run started ok. I manage to run the same distance as last year before my first stop which is about 5km (only). After some walk, continue running. I feel blisters started to form at around 6th or 7th km. By the 10th km, the blister starts to hurt. This year, I didn't get to see sunrise as there was cloud covering the sky. It had been raining for the past few days, luckily it didn't rain during the marathon day.
On my way back to Penang Island, there was a mixture of running and walking. More of walking actually...I practically ran 50m and walk 200m, haha, really really tired liao. My feet hurts, mostly caused by the blister. After crossing the middle of the bridge, my feet was in real real pain and I couldn't run anymore. Looking helplessly at my watch as it went pass the qualification time of 3hrs.
As I'm nearing the finishing point, I manage to force myself to run towards it. On my arrival, I straight away got a leg cramp. I sat there for 10mins pulling my own leg before the cramp finally go away. Finishing at 3hrs 20mins, I got myself a cert and a medal. It's my best time so far, 25mins better than last year. *Yay!*
Fill-up my stomach with cup after cup of Isotonic drinks, apple juice and Milo. The sad thing on that day was that I lost RM20 at Padang USM, the money must have fell off my pocket when I was busy taking the free Nestle cereal. *Sigh, this makes the Nestle cereal free no more* :..(
Highlight of the day:
Before the start of the run, the announcer mentioned that this year, they had the most number of participants and he continue by listing out all the countries that took part. We are so proud that the marathon can attract so many participants. But I am definitely not proud with all the different smells provided to runners on the bridge.
During the run, we were exposed to carbon monoxide (expelled by the big ship that are beside the bridge for the bridge extension project), chicken shit (duno why got such smell near the middle of the bridge), occasional riverbank smell (very common smell we get when drive through the bridge's tol plaza) and lastly the smell of dog shit when we're doing the U-turn back towards Penang Island.
Terrible la I tell you! We're exercising and yet have to bear with all these unhealthy smell.
