New food in QBM
Queensbay Mall (QBM) was officially opened in Dec 2006. It is now the beginning of 2009. 2 years sounds quite a long time to me. I would expect all shop lots in the Mall be rented out by now, and business should be quite stabilize. But seems like that is not the case. We're seeing new shop starting up and some old ones who cannot survive tough time closed down.
Throughout these years, food businesses have had the most changes, or maybe that is the only thing I've observed. You know la, clothes & shoes are not of my interest
Long time ago I've made a review about Pastasia, they sell Italian+Thai fusion pasta which I think is quite special but kinda expensive. They've closed down in 2007. And now Padini expanded their shop and took over Pastasia's location.
End of 2008, we see Kim Gary opening in South Court 2nd floor. That was the old place of Bakerzin. I think Bakerzin also sell pasta and other western variety, not too sure coz they close down before I get to try it. When Bakerzin started business not too long after QBM opened, almost everybody working in the Bayan Lepas area received an email about a review on Bakerzin. It was a bad review saying that their clam is like the size of lala and the price is expensive. I think that review might have in-directly or directly affected them, you know how powerful email nowadays. That is also the reason I did not have the interest to try their food. Anyway, back to Kim Gary.
Many months after Kim Gary opened, there is still long queue of people waiting to be seated every time I pass by. Whether it is lunch time, dinner time or random time, the queue is still there, just the length of queue different. If you don't want to queue here then you have to drive all the way to Gurney Plaza for their other outlet. I think the food is so-so only, depending on what you ordered. Spaghetti sucks. Price less than RM20 per person, which is consider normal in QBM.
Another new restaurant is Azuma, serving Japanese food located in South Court beside Harvey Norman. If you're lucky enough to get a seat beside the window, you can enjoy the Penang Bridge view while eating. I haven't try out the food, but according to my boss, the food is just so-so. Price of a set meal including tax & charges would come to around RM30 per person.
There's also this new Hong Kong restaurant, Canton-I in Ground Floor North Court, just opened early this year (2009). The food damn expensive lar. A plate of dried wanton mee which you can get at hawker stall for RM2.50 to RM3.00 is priced at RM12.80. You get to choose 2 toppings only (i don't call them side dish but toppings bcoz they only top it on the noodles), whether char siew, siew yuk, wantan and etc etc. Milk tea hot = RM5.50. Maybe coz they import their food all the way from HK, that's why so expensive. Some more got those extra charges, neh those 5% + 10% wan leh~. What's more surprising, their business is not too bad, got ppl queue outside also. People nowadays very rich hor... (hehe...i'm one of the ppl to 'bong chan', not to say I'm rich but because I don't know the food is so expensive). Their char siew very good, my wantan mee also good. The milk tea also good. Other food I don't know good or not la, you go try then let me know, k? I ran out of budget d.
In QBM, there are plenty of expensive and good food to pamper yourselves with. When you get your bonus, or completed a project or simply because there is anything worth celebrating, you won't be out of choices on what to eat.
Whenever I think I've been doing a good job, my way of rewarding myself is to eat something good, and expensive. A full stomach is a happy me :)

It's informative to know that canton-i's pricing is so ex. If there is nothing great about the place, i don't think i'm keen to waste my $$ and time trying it.
