My never ending adventure
It has been awhile since I last visited this page. It has been quiet...
Hrmmm, so what's new with me lately? Let me see...
Well, for one, I haven't been swimming for a long time now. Since April. My favorite 50m indoor pool in PISA was closed down due to leakage. And I don't enjoy swimming in my odd-shape condominium pool.
I've also bike a lot less after Century Ride in early August. The weather always go against me when it comes to cycling.
Anyway, nowadays it doesn't really matter that much whether I get to bike or not because I've had the achievement of finishing 100miles already. The remaining target of the year is to run 42.195km. Yea, the Marathon!!
For the past 2 months, I've been running a lot in preparation for the marathon, which initially I plan to do it at Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) end of November. I started my first long run in early Aug starting out with 23km. It's a good starting LSD distance for me considering that I've been running quite a decent number of half marathons.
So that was what I had been doing for the next 5 weekends, trying to increase the distance by a little every week if I can. At that time, the plan was still as preparation for PBIM at end of the year. But then at one point of time, the idea of running Sydney Marathon came about. After some serious thinking, I decided to be adventurous and follow my heart. I signed-up for Sydney Marathon which took place on Sept 19th. Thanks to all the trainings, I finished my first ever Marathon in 4hrs 47mins...and I finished it with a happy face :)
(shall dedicate a full post on this if I am not being lazy)
The following week after Sydney Marathon, it was the Newton 25k race, somewhere near Bandar Kinrara, KL. I signed up for this race very early of the year, at the time when I have no idea that I'd be doing a marathon. It is actually quite crazy to be running 25km race right after a marathon the week before, but no choice lor, already sign-up. The course is super hilly and it started so late that the sun was burning on my skin before I could finish. Nearly fainted at one point because of the heat...had to slap myself out of it. Eventually, I finished the 25k with a lot of pain.
The race maniac continues...
It was the Tanjung 10k race in Penang the week following Newton. I had a target in mind, have to finish it under 1hr. That morning, I woke up to a heavy rain. Initially planned to car pool with Kenneth and Liza but after some early sms-es, both of them decided not to run it. As for me, I don't care about rain. Already sign-up why not run it right? I'll be soak in sweat after the run anyway. I drove myself to the start area at Jalan Sepoy Lines. At the start line, I was surprise to see Kenneth there. He decided to turn up at the very last minute because the rain had stopped.
The run was flagged off on time. I started slow and tried to push harder at the end. Finished the race in 56mins 14secs. To my surprise, I actually get placing with that finishing time!! Placing was never in my mind at all, so I didn't suspect anything. After crossing the finishing line, I queue up multiple times for MILO, one of my favorite after-run drinks. It was almost 9am and weather is cloudy and still quite cool. Decided to do more runs in Botanical Garden, so off I went running. It was not until late that morning that congratulation sms came in, then only I know I got 5th placing. A runner friend helped to collect my prize (so glad I have friend that are kind enough to collect prize on my behalf). It was a shoe bag (just what I need now), a few cans of Milo, one HoneyStar cereal, 1 packet of Maggi mee and 2 packet of 3-in-1 Milo. Simple prizes but I was really happy :)
Today, after many many months of dragging, I finally registered for PBIM 2010 full Marathon. It's just 7 weeks to go before the marathon, on 21 Nov. It will be a very different run compared to Sydney Marathon; running in temperature range of 11C to 20C in Sydney versus running in a MIN temp of 27C in Penang.
It's a challenge and I wanted to put myself through the test. Let the running obsession continues!

Good luck with the Marathon, my brother is in KL and is also busy training for the Marathon - though he is finding the difference in climate, from the UK, a little bit challenging!
