Running in the rain
Today’s plan was to do a morning run near Youth Park area. The night before, it was pouring heavily outside, the rain was on and off. At that time, I was wondering if the rain will last till tomorrow morning.
This morning, I woke up to a cool day, doing a quick check at the window and I was glad that it's not raining outside (cannot see the cloud as the sky is still dark), just the road wet from the previous night. I went on with the usual routine. When I stepped out from the toilet, I heard the rain, heavy rain! What a bummer...
I recalled the night before, Chin had told me that the WWW will be running no matter rain or shine, so I decided to go. Crossed my finger and hope that there will be no rain at the Youth Park side.
As I was heading there, the rain got heavier along the way. When I reached Turf Club, I got a call from Chin saying that she’ll be running this morning instead of doing what had previously planned. In a way, I’m glad she’ll be joining the run this morning.
Only the second time running with the WWW, I haven’t figure out who drive what car yet. Arriving at Youth Park, I saw 3 cars but couldn’t see anyone inside. It was drizzling that time. To be safe, I waited in the car until I see somebody familiar around. It was almost 7am then. After awhile, I saw Sam running back to his car and at about the same time, Chin arrived too.
After a phone call, persuasion (to persuade SP to run with us) and some talking, the rain stopped and we have 4 ppl (including me) to start the run. It feels really nice to be running in such a cool morning. The feel good feeling doesn’t last very long though. I started off too fast (well, fast for me anyway) and was breathing hard in the later part of the run. Lesson 1 learned, “never start off a run too fast”. On the way back to the car park, it started raining again.
Running in the rain reminds me of old time when I cycle to school in secondary school years. I will cycle back home even if it is raining. The heavier the rain, the more excited I get…haha, crazy times. Wow wow, can you believe it?! That was 10years ago!! 10years…the number makes me feel really old now :(
Anyway, when I reach the car park I was kind of wet, not sure if more from the rain or from the sweat. As usual, I was the last to reach. Don’t really care though, I’m happy enough to reach the ending without the need of stopping to a walk. SP is really nice to be running alongside me despite my slow pace.
My wagon car proves to be very useful in raining times, lifting the 5th door up makes a roof to protect us from the rain, a bit too small to cover all 4 of us but useful nevertheless. Wet from the sweat + rain, Sam gave me a new T-shirt to change. Thanks a lot Sam, the shirt fits me nicely. Lesson 2 learned, “spare a clean shirt in the car all the time”.
We went for breakfast after that at one of the street in Penang’s Little India. The crunchiest Tosai I’ve had other than the Paper Tosai from Kayu. Kayu Paper Thosai is thicker, but the Tosai that I had that morning is much thinner. Very nice!
The rain had stopped by the time we finished breakfast.
I went home satisfied with the day’s workout and the breakfast following that. What is better is that this weekend is a long one, celebrating Penang Governer Birthday.
Happy Birthday Mr. Governer!
