PSDC Charity Run
The PSDC Charity Run happened last week, July 26th 2009. Laziness is the reason of the delayed update. I'll try to keep things short and simple.
PSDC stands for Penang Skills Development Centre. PSDC is an industrial training centre here in the Bayan Lepas, providing training programs and organizing team building for companies in this industrial area.
To celebrate PSDC's 20th anniversary, they organized a 6.5km charity run. The route is around the industrial zone, the place that I only used to drive around in car and never on foot.
I had my whole family to take part in the run. My parents stayed over at my place the night before.
We reached there at about 7am. The race starts at 7.25am sharp. Had to walk for a slight distance before I can start running due to the huge turnout of runners. When I started running, had to weave in out within the bunch of crowded people. There was no total road closure, so runners had to keep to the left.
I ran with my own pace, collecting color wrist band along the way. We were given the first one at the starting line, we need to collect 2 more. The route was flat all the way except for a slight incline crossing a bridge. I pushed a little harder when I'm nearing the finishing line, don't dare to push too early fearing that I may pancit half way. I ended the 6.5km run in 39mins. I believe this was my best race ever with a pace of 6mins/km, that is if the route was really 6.5km. I measured using Google Earth and it showed only 6.18km, however Wikimapia showed 6.5km.
Gave them back the 3 color wrist bands in exchange for the goodies bag.
Hang around the place for a little while, enjoy the Vico and isotonic drinks they provided while waiting for presentation of donation proceeds to charity bodies and also the lucky draw. There were also interesting performances like magic show and hip hop dance.
Took some photos while waiting for lucky draw. The sky shows sign of rain coming, with thick cloud hovering above. It finally rained during lucky draw, everybody ran for cover. Luckily, the rain just showered for awhile and it stopped.
My family was lucky enough to get one of the lucky draw prizes, but it was one of those unnecessary item that we do not need.
Altogether, the Charity Run was a success and was well organized. Run started on time, performance was interesting and lucky draw was quick...if not mistaken, there were 90 prizes in total and it wasn't dragged too long. Very good.
