Ahh...earthquake!!
It was around 8pm. I was sitting in front of the laptop when suddenly the floor was shaking. Initially, I thought the fat guy above my room is walking heavily around his room again, but it gets stronger and stronger.
Everything in my room is squeaking, the door, the rack where the TV rest, the table, the cabinet...everything is swaying!!
I didn't know what I should do. Do I run out of the room? Do I hide under the table? I just sit there, looking at the squeaking door thinking "is it earthquake? is it earthquake? earthquake happen in California?" The questions got repeated over and over again until the quake ended, which lasted for about a minute.
My heart was thumping so hard, it hurts. It was scary!
After awhile, my colleague from another room called me to confirm if I felt it or not. We then decided to go out to check if people ran out of their room, like what Penangites do when there's earth quake in Indonesia.
Indeed, we saw people walking around in the hotel lobby, barefoot. A guy was standing there talking with another person. I approached them to ask if it was an earthquake. "Yes, it was, and it's a strong one too", he answered.
Another guy said "there might be an after shock, or it might be a sign that a bigger quake is coming". *choi choi* touch wood
Seeing that nothing else I could do in the lobby, I went back to my room and turn on the TV to CNN, hoping to get an update on the quake. Indeed, within minutes the newscaster gave a brief update.
It was a 5.6 magnitude quake, epicenter is in Alum Rock, which is just a few miles away from my place (I'm staying in Milpitas btw). No damage or injuries reported for the time being.
Luckily my room is only on the 1st floor. Hope there won't be any after shock nor bigger shock after this. It's not fun at all :(
