OldTown Kopitiam, Queensbay Mall

The Old Town white coffee has made it's name in Malaysia in the last few years. It started off as a small coffee shop in the old town of Ipoh before making it big. Now, they sell their white coffee not only in cups but as 3-in-1 pack as well, distributed worldwide. Not only did they sell packages of 3-in-1 white coffee, they even started a kopitiam chain store in Malaysia. They have branches all over KL, Ipoh and Penang (this is the only city I've been to recently, i'm not sure whether Johor got or not).

I've visited different branches of Old Town Kopitiam such as Pacific Megamall in Prai, E-gate in Penang, Puchong and Ipoh, just to name a few.

Some of the food which I love including of course their famous white coffee, kaya and butter toast, soft boiled egg and nasi lemak.

When the Old Town Kopitiam started business in Queensbay Mall (QBM) some time in early 2007, I pay them a visit too. It was located in the lower ground floor of North court of QBM, just beside the elevator.

During the first visit, I wasn't really satisfied with their food. It was below par compared to the other branches I've visited. The nasi lemak was not as good, the sambal given was very little and the chicken, OMG, how small can a piece of chicken be? RM5.80 for a nasi lemak with such small portion of sambal and a small piece of chicken is totally not worth it. I also think that the coffee is not as good. I thought to myself, maybe it's because this branch is still new and the staff needs more training. I'll stop by in the future hoping to see improvement.

Today, I was there again in Old Town Kopitiam QBM. The piece of chicken in the nasi lemak had shrinked even more compared to my last visit. (How come chicken shrink, price never shrink?) The white coffee is not good either, it has a kind of smoky taste in it, something like the coffee bean was over fried or burnt. As for the kaya and butter toast, the kaya was so little, it tasted more like "butter toast" instead of "KAYA and butter toast". Not good leh... :( The only food without complain from me is the soft boiled eggs, the timing was perfect, the eggs were not too cooked yet not too raw...just nice!

Maybe it is just me being too picky because every time I walk past that part of QBM, Old Town Kopitiam is packed with people, sometimes there's even a queue seen at the entrance. You'd have to try it yourselves to know how good/bad it is.

In my opinion, the other Old Town Kopitiam in E-gate is much better. The next time when I'm craving for white coffee and kaya & butter toast, I'll opt for E-gate. Furthermore, it's not too far away from QBM, only 10mins drive away.
