iTouch review
My follow up review following the first review previously. I've now owned the Ipod touch for 3 weeks already. ;)
Is it worth to spend hundreds of dollars on a piece of small electronic gadget that serves as an MP3 player? Well, it is up to the individual to judge.
iPod is NOT a necessity, it is something that you spend money on just because you want to, or coz your hand got itchy because you have some extra cash in hand. For me, it is something that I've always wanted since ages ago but I never made it to owning one. Spending RM700 to RM1000 just to be able to listen to music is ridiculous (back then it was iPod Nano).
While I'm in US, I got exposed to more iPod. Add to it was the newly released iPod Touch. The sleek and shiny iPod Touch is so irresistible, it keeps on calling my name. :P After about one month in the US, 2 of the conditions I mentioned above were satisfied. (1) sth I want (2) hand itchy when got extra cash in hand add with a third extra condition (3) the price here is much cheaper compare to Malaysia
8Gb
USD299 + 8.25% tax = USD323.67 = RM1,068.11 (conv rate 3.3)
In Malaysia, the price is RM1,339
16Gb
USD399 + 8.25% tax = USD431.92 = RM1,425.34 (conv rate 3.3)
In Malaysia, the price is RM1,739
Here are some of my opinions on the pros and cons:
The pros
The cons
As usual, a review ends with summary
The price of an Apple product never drop, this could be a good thing for people who had already purchased an Apple product but could be a bad thing for people like me who are waiting for the price to drop before buying. Price control are done very well, whether online, electronic store, Nike shop or Apple store, all of them are selling with the same price, the most I see were 2 or 3 dollars cheaper at some giant electronic store (I mean within one country).
What I would say is that Apple is an arrogant brand. Very very few discounts, even on holiday shopping season, discount is very limited. Everything also need to purchase (extra warranty, protective casing, screen protector, power socket charger, songs, whatever you can think of also need to purchase and it's never cheap). But what can you say right? Being the arrogant brand, their iPods and Mac book is still selling like hot cakes.
Are you tempted to own one?

Here are some of my opinions on the pros and cons:
The pros
- Easy navigation even though with hundreds or even thousands of songs (with the condition you have properly arranged music library)
- Cover flow flipping makes finding album interesting
- Can make instant on-the-go playlist, which will be automatically saved into iTunes when sync
- Easy access to Play, Pause and volume when screen is lock, without the need to unlocking the screen
- Wifi capability and easy surfing using Safari web browser. This is very useful especially when traveling without a notebook. During my Las Vegas trip, I was able to check my email and look for some information online about the location I was about to visit the next day. Although I was only staying in some cheap motel beside the freeway, they provide free wireless connection. Isn't that cool? 2 out of 3 hotels I stayed in during that trip provide wireless connection.
- Sleep timer enables me to listen to songs while I'm on my way to dozing off...
- Flexibility to change and resize photos to make wallpaperI've changed my wallpaper since then, but lazy to take picture of it
- Although the Calendar and Contacts info can be sync using either programs in MacBook or Outlook, it wasn't useful to me. I don't have either the MacBook or the Outlook. :P I'm sure it would be useful if I utilize it.
- There's the calculator application, useful to make conversion from USD to RM and to calculate price before and after discount during shopping ;)
- A world clock application where I include Malaysia time and US pacific time to enable easy time zone calculation. Useful especially for people who travel a lot to different time zone
- Automatic brightness adjustment; at dim places, the screen brightness will be dimmer than usual to save battery power
The cons
- The back of the iTouch is shiny and is easily scratched
- Can only charge iTouch using USB (other charging device needs to purchase separately)
- Original Apple earphones doesn't give great sound
- There is some problem with the iTunes. Everytime I plug-in the iTouch to the computer through the USB, iTunes will ask me to register, and I really mean EVERYTIME. How many times do you want me to register? Register means fill in name, log-in to iTunes account, set age and all. It really gets annoying after doing it a few times. I tried to Google to find a solution to this and it seems like this problem is not only happening to me, up till now there are no solution yet.
- Got one tiny stuck pixel on my iTouch. The Apple people said warranty takes effect only when there are 5 or more stuck pixel
- Never free of finger-prints, when you polish the back, you hold the front screen, when you polish the front screen you hold the back mirror-like surface...and it goes on forever
- Expensive accessories, a normal protective casing cost US$30 to US$35, a front and back screen protector cost around US$30

I had the same problem where it asked me to register...then it made me restore the whole thing..
luckily all i had to do to make it stop was to upgrade my itunes...now i dont have to register it anymore..
but....everytime i plug in my itouch it brings up a thing asking me to upgrade...i say no thanks and then it ALWAYS says that itunes could not process my request..does yours do this?

What does iTunes ask you to upgrade when you plug in your iTouch? I got pop-up to ask me to upgrade the iPod Touch's software from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 because I have not do so yet. Other than that, i did not get any other upgrade messages.

Hello from Iowa. Thanks for a good review. It pointed out some things about the itouch I didn't know. I will go with Creative or iriver instead. The itouch is beautiful, but apple no longer sits atop the mp3 heap. Of course, no one has an mp3 player better than the itouch, but there certainly are equals. I'm glad I found out Apple makes you go through so much just to charge or when you plug your itouch in. I hate stuff like that. That is a deal breaker. You are right now that I think about it. Apple is arrogant...kind of a turn-off. The itouch is beautiful and even with all that I am almost tempted to get one anyway. Almost.

do any of you know if the harddrive goes bad if using it for physical activities such as running and snow skiing. I have heard that is may get to shaken up. have anyone had problems with this?
By Anonymous, at Dec 26, 2008, 8:49:00 AM
i use it for jogging quite often. It may not be tat suitable for skiing though, as the battery life may reduce due to extreme temp, n there may b possibility of getting wet

Hi LieWei,
All throughout reading your review, I just kept feeling as if I was talking to myself. Each and every word is nothing else but the truth.
I also take apple itouch the way you think about it.

Been considering iTouch, and, as with any apple product, whoever I ask who has one loves it. In my experience though, apple has had horrible customer service, and if your battery goes bad for whatever reason, you have to send the whole ipod away for weeks. I agree, Apple is arrogant, and their products are way over rated. Why pay hundreds of dollars for an ipod that does the same thing as a regular mp3 player thats a hundred bucks cheaper? The only reason ipods are so popular is because of the sleek design, and easy to use menus. That being said, they've sucked my in too, and I want an itouch, for the look, the touch, the features and stuff like that. If I get it, I sure hope it's worth it.

I really think that the iTouch is great and that anyone who wants to buy it will never regret the 230 dollars. Apple is great (to all of you anti-appler people who still buy their FANTASTIC products... eh hem Anonymous) Anyway anyone who buys it WILL and IS UNDOUBTLY going to love it. Keep it cool, play it clean... and for the scratches problem, go to great stores such as WalMart or Amazon (online selling and buying place... visit www.amazon.com) and get the cover case you like in any color including the basic tones- white and black. They cost about 5 bucks on Amazon and Ebay, because Hey, come on, new or used... whats the difference if it does the job that you ask it to do. Also, Apple's products are REALLY great and fun to use. Especially the iTouch and iPhone and iMac. Great Great GREAT! again. one word... fabulousity! But there is one drawback to the iPhone... only 4 AT&T. I bet T-Mobile users would LOVE to be able to buy it much cheaper than 600 or 700 bucks. I wish that great products like these are available to all phone retailers. Back to the iTouch--- great, great, great PRODUCT... Back to the skiing problem, yes you can take it but buy the 5 dollar case... thanks a ton!!! BUY IT... ITS CALLING YOU!

I have a T-Mobile Google phone and have put a Invisible Shield on it. It really works and I would recommend it to anyone with items that need protecting! I'm still thinking about the iTouch...looks great!
